Sarah and Mason: A Washington DC Sunrise Engagement

DC SUNRISE

Sarah and Mason met at a George Mason University party, and Mason proposed in Stowe, Vermont on a ski trip on New Year's Eve.  A fun couple, they describe themselves as "pretty laid back, a bit super gooshie."  They love the Washington DC Capitals, skiing, snowboarding, traveling, and playing with their dogs.  They're also into Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm

For the engagement session, they knew a place near the wharf in DC that was special to them, where we could enjoy the cherry blossoms away from the usual DC crowds.  They wanted to use one of the engagement session photographs as their save-the-date invitation.  And they really wanted to include their dogs if at all possible.

Because the cherry blossoms' peak bloom was in March this year, we kept our eyes on the weather forecast.  March weather had delivered quite a roller-coaster ride, with rain, snow, and day-to-day temperatures in the 20's or 70's, almost on a whim.  When an upcoming Saturday morning promised warm weather without rain, we scrambled to rearrange our schedules.

And, we pulled off a lovely sunrise engagement session (including Sarah and Mason's two dogs)!

The featured image above is one of my favorite close-up portraits of Mason and Sarah.  It was captured towards the end of the session as the warm sun just managed to break through the clouds.  I love the warmth of the image:  two people in love, with two beaming smiles, illuminated by a beaming sun.

What a lovely couple, what a lovely March morning!
