I was happy to create this classical contemporary portrait for Sara, an elementary school music teacher in Loudoun County, Virginia. Our goal in creating this portrait was to present Sara as she is in her everyday work life. Her outfit is typical of the clothing she wears in the classroom--practical but with touches of elegance.
Sara is quite personable and has great presence in front of the camera. I'm sure that's in large part inherent in her personality; but I suspect it's also, in some part, due to survival skills learned in the classroom. She teaches elementary school kids of all ages, and I bet sixth-graders sometimes benefit from a strong teacher's presence!
In this portrait, Sara is in a classical feminine pose. I love the graceful gesture of her arms and hands, which is pure Sara. The gesture was one that I noticed during an in-between moment between image captures. I get excited when the person relaxes and reveals a natural look to the camera!
I experimented with different expressions: serious, small smiles, large smiles, and expressions in-between. I loved this serene expression. Sara looks regal, a woman comfortable in her own skin and confident in her abilities.
