THE BIRTHPLACE PROJECT
I was born in a small town in South Carolina, but the only memories I have of this place are as a little child living briefly with my grandparents on the poor, rural outskirts. This project is intended to explore the town and its people. We'll see where the project leads.
My first visit focused on the historic downtown, which I photographed on a hot Tuesday afternoon. Many businesses there have been long shuttered. The businesses still open were mostly closed on Tuesdays. So the streets were mostly deserted. I primarily photographed the exteriors along the main street, but there are side excursions to the Railroad Museum, Zion Institute, and a couple shots at the end from the approach to the town.
