FAQ | Northern Virginia Family Portrait Photography

Do you offer family portrait sessions in studio or on location?

I am happy to do either!  I have a well-equipped portrait studio that includes multiple studio strobes, backdrops, posing aids, and other props.  Within the studio, my camera room accommodates small to medium families (up to six persons or so).  My lighting and camera equipment are portable, so I can do beautiful environmental family portraits on location as well.  Choose your home, local park, or some other place of special significance to your family.

What is your photographic style?

My portrait photography tends to be relaxed traditional.  The emphasis is on people's faces and relationships.  I love portraits that reveal personality and emotional connection.

Do you provide prints or digital files?

I specialize in decor for the home and office, which includes wall portraits, table-top portraits, and albums.  These are available in a variety of finishes and presentations.  But I also offer hi-res and web-res digital files for clients who want them.  (And, who doesn't!)

What is the process and timeline?

I recommend a pre-consultation so that we can plan the session:  objectives, theme, location, clothing, setting, etc.  In-studio sessions are typically an hour.  On-location sessions are usually closer to two hours.  After the session, I will edit the image captures.  This involves deleting unflattering and duplicative images as well as first-order enhancements with regard to overall exposure, color balance, and cropping.  Approximately two weeks after the session, we get back together to view the images, decide on products, and finalize the order.  I then perform the detailed retouching and enhancements required to bring out the best in your portraits.  Final prints are created by professional color labs among the best in the world.  Portrait art pieces are usually delivered within four weeks.  Albums typically take longer and are ready within 2-4 months.

Do you offer a la carte or portrait collections?

I offer both to fit your needs and budget.  My portrait collections are customized based on your needs, taking advantage of vendor specials and other discounts available to me at the time.  These specially priced collections are offered for a limited time only, so that production can run smoothly.  Orders from the a la carte menu are happily accepted at any time!

What are your prices?

In-studio family portrait sessions are $200, which includes a $75 credit towards the purchase of portrait art from my a la carte menu.  On-location family portrait sessions are $400, which includes a $150 credit.  Typical client orders range from $600 to $1200, depending on the family's needs and budget.

How do I book my family portrait session?

You can send me email or call me at 703-729-3780.  I'd love to chat about your family and portrait needs.  And, of course, you are welcome to schedule a visit to my studio in Ashburn, Virginia.  Payment of the session fee reserves time on my calendar for your family portrait session.  I accept most major credit cards.

What else should I know?

My work is guaranteed!  If you do not love the photographs that I capture for you, I will happily either schedule a new session or refund the session fee you've paid.

I only sell what I really love.  I want you to buy only what you really love.
