WELCOME TO ROGER HAMMONS PHOTOGRAPHY

Deeply seen, deeply felt, deeply remembered.

We are a boutique Northern Virginia photography studio located in Ashburn, Virginia, specializing in wedding photography, portrait photography, and fine art photography.

We love to photograph Maryland weddings, Virginia weddings, and DC weddings of all traditions!  Whether yours is an opposite-sex marriage or a same-sex marriage, we'd love to get to know you and your unique love story.  And, however you and your family decide to celebrate two lives passionately shared -- religious or secular, traditional or avant garde, western or non-western -- we would be honored to capture those memories in wedding photographs that are deeply seen, deeply felt, and deeply remembered.

We provide commercial and lifestyle portrait sessions in our Loudoun County, Virginia studio or on-location within the greater Washington DC metropolitan area, including Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

We provide engagement photography sessions for MD VA DC wedding couples, whether we do the wedding photography or not.  These unique sessions are great fun, especially when the location and theme are tailored to the couple's love story.

Please enjoy my wedding photography, portrait photography, and fine art photography blog!  I hope you find the eclectic diversity of images -- as well as my thoughts on their design and creation -- both entertaining and educational.

How to Take Better Children's Photos: Tip 3

TIP #3. LET THEM BE Once you've found great light (see Tip 1) and a background that accentuates your subject (see Tip 2), your next objective is to draw out a great expression from the child. This is very challenging, and no strategy is guaranteed to suit every child (or even every photographer). You must be creative. And "Say cheese!" is not my...

I was thrilled when my wedding photograph entitled "Our Love Is Evergreen" won best-in-show honors in the wedding category at a recent Maryland Professional Photographers Association (MDPPA) photography competition, but I was not surprised. What a fantastic landscape! Its natural beauty offers a wonderful setting for an environmen...

Remember that everything visible in a photograph is there only because the photographer chose to include it. If the background is cluttered, the photographer ch...

How to Take Better Children's Photos: Tip 1

TIP #1. LOOK FOR GOOD LIGHT Harsh lighting makes for harsh portraits, which isn't fun for the child, the photographer, or the viewer. Just don't do it! One of the easiest places to photograph people is in open shade. Open shade is mellow, easy-going, "do-your-own-thing" light. It is usually soft and relatively even, so you don't have to worry abo...

Watch Me Grow! "Happy Faces" Art Panel

August 22, 2016  •  Leave a Comment
GROW HAPPY! In my "Watch Me Grow!" Baby Portrait Series, the four-month-old session is devoted to baby's happy, funny, silly, shy, curious faces. By four months, the baby can lift her head and smile at her parents. She has a repertoire of expressive faces that are delightful to capture in portraits. I like a clean, simple set to showcase the baby...
