ROMANTIC PREGNANCY PORTRAITS 

Sarah and Nathan were high school sweethearts who married soon after college.  They are now expecting their first baby, a boy, in February 2015.  They are leaning towards naming him Jax.

Because babies tend to come a bit early in Sarah’s family, we scheduled the first of two planned maternity sessions at five months into her pregnancy.  We decided to photograph the couple and their baby-to-be at a few of Sarah’s favorite garden spots near West Chester, Pennsylvania.  

We were lucky that the previous day’s rains had given way overnight to cloudy skies.  It was chilly and damp, but our sense of adventure and the beauty of our surroundings kept us all inspired.  

The formal gardens were indeed gorgeous, with striking views in every direction.  Amidst the lush foliage, we captured a variety of lovely portraits of Sarah by herself and together with her Nathan.  I especially liked the romantic images in which the couple's embrace is framed by the garden's flowers and greenery.  

Even more spectacular was the amphitheater in the woods, with its dramatic stonework, wet lush grass, dark earth, and tall trees.  It was so quiet and still.  You could easily imagine it a place for fairy tales.  

We captured one of my favorite portraits there:  In front of a beautiful stone wall that provided a medieval castle-like backdrop, Nathan bent down to kiss his Sarah, who was reclining peacefully atop her sloping stone wall bed.   It was a very soft, very romantic moment, reminiscent of the “Sleeping Beauty” story.  

What a beautiful canvas portrait it will be for the baby’s nursery.
