OLD TOWN ALEXANDRIA CHARM
Jennifer and Willie wanted their engagement portraits to be taken in a beautiful outdoor setting, preferably one that included nature and urban features. They planned to have their wedding in Old Town Alexandria, a half-way point for their friends and family. They enjoy going out together to dance, to see a movie, and to have a nice dinner.
My first idea was to do a lifestyle session at an outdoor cafe. They said they didn't have a particular favorite in Alexandria but loved getting ice cream at Ben & Jerry's to eat along the nearby waterfront.
I thought to myself, "Old Town Alexandria, the waterfront, AND Ben & Jerry's?" I didn't need to hear any more. "Let's do the engagement portraits there!," I said. Jennifer and Willie loved the idea, too!
My intuition was confirmed when I scouted the area and put together storyboards for the session. There were many great romantic spots -- some open areas with expansive views and some hidden nooks -- all with that unique Alexandria charm.
Here is one of my photographs from the session. It is an architectural study as well as romantic portrait. I love the two beautiful grand windows surrounded by the deep red brick arches. I love the color harmony between the building and the outfits Jennifer and Willie are wearing. I love how natural the couple interact in this setting, too. You can definitely see the love -- the way they gaze at each other, they way they hold each other's hand.
My wedding and engagement photography is often described as timeless and romantic. That's what Jennifer and Willie wanted. And I believe that's the feeling this environment portrait delivers.
