Cinderella Engagement

JESSICA & GABRIEL:  A "CINDERELLA" STORY

Gabriel proposed to Jessica last September at the Barcroft Bible Church, where they first met.  They asked me to capture their love in photographs.  "We really like how you capture the love and how happy each couple looked in their photos," they said.

Jessica and Gabriel love watching movies together, so I suggested we do an engagement session with Jessica's red Mustang at a drive-in movie theater.  They loved the idea!  We just needed to find a drive-in theatre, with a friendly owner.

To our great delight, the Family Drive-In Theatre in Stephens City, Virginia welcomed us enthusiastically.  We had just missed the Drive-In's last day of the 2014 season, so we decided to wait for opening day March 13, 2015.  Our patience was rewarded:  Opening day featured the premiere of Disney's new "Cinderella" movie.  How wonderfully poetic and apropos!

We started before dusk with a series of romantic images in and about the red Mustang.  Jessica was stunning in her red dress, and Gabriel played the passionate suitor with gusto.

We had fun creating portraits full of color and emotion; but, to my surprise, the best was yet to come!

Unbeknownst to me, Jessica and Gabriel had brought a change of clothes and soon emerged as Cinderella and Prince Charming.  (And, yes, Jessica wore glass slippers on her feet.)  I was impressed!  I loved the look; I loved their playfulness.

As sunset approached, I photographed Cinderella and Prince Charming dancing (of course!) -- both in front of the big screen and at the Drive-In's tented "Cinderella Ball." Then, when the movie started, I slipped away to let them enjoy the rest of their date night.

The "sneak peek" photograph shared in this post is one of my favorites.  It is a natural light portrait taken just inside the concession stand.  I love the colorful, quirky details:  the movie signs, the popcorn, the green railing, the yellow heart!  To me, the portrait encapsulates the magic of the moment and the place.

Thanks, Jessica and Gabriel, for letting me share in your Cinderella romance!
