WHAT'S IN YOUR 'WALLETS'?

Julian did not like what was in his!  He felt that his senior portraits, taken by the high school's contract photographer, were not good enough to send out with his graduation announcements.  To him, the poses were awkward, the expressions inauthentic.

Unfortunately, the family's do-it-yourself attempt also proved unsatisfactory; so, when other graduation announcements began to arrive in the mail, Julian's mom really began to worry.  She called me to see if I would be willing and able to arrange a quick-turnaround, high school senior portrait session just before Mothers' Day.  

Fortunately, I could ... and would ... and did! 

I met with Julian and his mom and dad for the first time on the Saturday before Mothers' Day.  After a quick tour of my Ashburn, Virginia photography studio, we headed out to a small nearby park, one of my favorite outdoor locations.  Julian was nicely dressed in a long-sleeved button-up shirt and khaki pants, perfect for the park setting.    

I love these portraits of Julian.  Strong masculine poses with Julian's confident gaze show off his handsome good looks and soulful eyes.  His patterned shirt provided a nice pop of color, helping separate him from the green backgrounds of the park, without taking attention away from his face.  

Before the session, Julian's mom told me that the best photographs she'd seen of her son had serious expressions and that she loved his eyes.  I captured that look -- so powerful for Julian -- but, delving deeper, also captured strong portraits with just the right touch of smile.  

In all of Julian's portraits, I too am captivated by those eyes.
