A “MRS P” HANDS-ON WORKSHOP:   THE BARE STUDIO – IMPROVISING INSIDE THE BOX

On-location portrait photography requires working efficiently to overcome the challenges of a new environment:  You have to find both flattering light and a pleasing backdrop and then pose your subject effectively within those constraints.  It can be overwhelming!      

In this 4-hour creative workshop, we’ll work on the skills of analysis, visualization, and problem solving applicable to every on-location portrait job.   With a very low student-to-instructor ratio, this workshop is designed to be uniquely hands-on, with a strong emphasis on learning by doing.  

To focus our attention on just the essentials, we’ll work in a bare studio!  

We’ll start with a site survey to identify promising areas within the bare studio.  Then we’ll explore how to pose our model within those areas to take advantage of the existing light and architectural elements.  We’ll strive to capture as many different, compelling portraits as we can, to ensure variety in our portrait work.  We’ll then challenge ourselves to add an extra touch of flair to the portraits via simple additions to the scene.  

The process we follow is a methodology whose mastery will allow the photographer to create unique images regardless of the “box” his/her future assignments bring.
