SEEKING EFFORTLESS BEAUTY

An experienced international fashion model, Nina was looking to update her professional portfolio with new images having a quiet, natural look, with classic clothing and minimal make-up.

And she thought of me!

Nina was inspired by a set of portraits she'd collected, of well-known actresses and models, that shared a feeling of "effortless beauty."  The style of the photographs appealed to me as well, so I happily agreed to help create similar portraits for her book.

We decided to photograph her in her elegant country home in Potomac, Maryland.  An accomplished equestrian since she was very young, Nina loves horses, and they are featured prominently in her home's decor.  We scouted a few different locations inside her home that I thought would be compatible with the look and feel of the portraits she wanted.  I also hoped to use the horse motifs in some of Nina's portraits to show a bit of her personal passions as well as her poise and beauty.

And, despite the bitter January cold, we also made a pact to visit the barn for a few portraits there, once the indoor sessions were done.

I love the gorgeous portraits that we created together.  I'm especially in awe of the "all-white" portraits -- what impeccable styling of hair, make-up, and clothing by Nina herself; what elegant pose, gesture, and expression; what glorious lighting -- Nina is simply radiant!

It is a great pleasure to work with a professional model as talented and gracious as Nina is.  I am always amazed at the variety of wonderful expressions and poses that a professional model is able to conjure up that present so beautifully to the camera.

If you are not a professional model -- and most of my clients are not! --, I would suggest studying how graceful Nina's hands are in her photos.  Posing of the hands is very difficult, but Nina's portraits provide us with a master class in technique.  If you ever hear me suggest that you "soften the positioning of your hands", think of Nina's portraits and you'll understand what I have in mind!

Thank you, Nina, for a magical collaboration.
