WINERY AT BULL RUN ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Carol and David chose the Winery at Bull Run for their summer-time engagement session.  And we couldn't have had a better time:  It was a beautiful day in Virginia -- full of sun, wine, and romance!

Earlier in the week, I had scouted the Winery to create storyboards of potential engagement images.  (The sessions always go more smoothly when the photographer knows in advance what the possibilities are!)  I had two basic objectives.   First, I wanted to identify iconic features and suitable vantage points that would allow me to create environmental portraits showcasing the couple in their chosen locale.  Then, for my relational portraits, I looked for locations with beautiful lighting and pleasant backgrounds, where the couple could relax, be themselves, and have fun.  Fortunately, the Winery at Bull Run had many great locations -- and all in a relatively small area.

The sun-splashed "ruins," where the wedding ceremonies on the property are often held, were great fun to explore!  Apart from the Sunday crowd -- the Winery is very popular with couples and families --,  the main challenge was working in direct sunlight, especially as the sun would go in and out of the clouds regularly.  For these portraits, we hyped it up with sunglasses and went all in for the "sun-drenched vineyard" vibe.

We also made use of some pretty, out-of-the-way spots for our romantic portraiture.  Away from the crowds, Carol and David could focus on each other, allowing us to capture a series of beautifully romantic images.  The weathered barn at the Winery provided lovely backdrops and amazing light for the natural light portraits.

The session ended with Carol and David enjoying a lovely sangria together -- a romantic ending to a romantic day -- thanks to the Winery at Bull Run!

Congratulations, Carol and David, on your engagement.  May you enjoy a lifetime full of wine and romance!
